Resiliance

I am listening to Andrew Zolli discuss his book Resiliance on a VPR stream right now. This live stream is particularly interesting, because he is also discussing this with Deborah Markowitz, the Secretary of the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources. It sounds very intriguing. Mainly because it offers strategies and cause for optimism in confronting the environmental challenges that the world faces.

From what I can tell, Zolli is suggesting that the world’s coastal regions, which house 80% of humanity, are beyond the point of “sustainability”. Particularly, due to the tight inter-connectedness of global environmental, financial, and market systems. For this reason,
mankind must engage in new, creative ways of managing our use of, and interaction with, the environment.

An environmental Malcolm Gladwell?

Sounds interesting. I think I’ll order a copy of the book as a potential class read for Environmental Science next year –
